It was an extraordinary presentation at the С.А.Д. theater last night. Andrey Merkuriev encouraged his friends and colleagues to show off their various talents. Artem Ovcharenko sang a love song while Evgenia Obraztsova, Anna Tihomirova and Anastasia Meskova spouted poetry.

The BBC docudrama with Artem Ovcharenko in the role of Rudolf Nureyev got good press

It’s always going to be a hard call to make a dramatised documentary about someone like Rudolf Nureyev: basically, who are you going to get to play him? But BBC got a fairly classy stand-in for this film about the Soviet dancer’s epochal defection to the West, in the shape of Bolshoi Ballet Principal Artem Ovcharenko.

Olga Smirnova and Artem Ovcharenko to perform in the revised Maillot's Casse-Noisette Compagnie

During the New Year holiday period, the entire Monte-Carlo Ballet Company will be immersed in "Casse-Noisette Compagnie" (Nutcracker Company), the full-length ballet by Jean-Christophe Maillot. First seen in 2013, but now revised, this production will present both original and absolutely new choreography. Furthermore, this marks the first time that Jean-Christophe Maillot has invited Russian dancers to take part in his full production staged for his Company.

BBC start broadcasting their new drama-documentary film depicting an extraordinary story of how Soviet ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev defected to the West during the first ever major tour of a Russian ballet company, at the height of the Cold War — and became a living legend.

A Hero of Our Time proves to be a great success

"A Hero of Our Time" proved to be an unquestionable success for Yuri Possokhov (choreography), Kirill Serebrennikov (director and designer), Ilya Demutsky (music), and, of course for all the Bolshoi cast. The ballet combines tradition and innovation, and thus connects with modern audiences. It was a wonderful performance yesterday evening and it will be another one today!
