Artem Ovcharenko is debuting in the world premiere of A Hero of Our Time
Artem is dancing the leading role as Pechorin in the world premiere of A Hero of Our Time on the 22, 24, and 26th of July.
Нe is partnering Ekaterina Shipulina, a prima ballerina with the Bolshoi Ballet, who is performing the role of Undine.
A Hero of Our Time is based on three chapters of the eponymous book written by the great Russian writer and poet Mikhail Lermontov: Bela, Taman, and Princess Mary. Artem and Ekaterina will perform in Taman.
The ballet has been choreographed by Yuri Possokhov. Kirill Serebrennikov, artistic director of the progressive Gogol Center Theater, has been invited to stage the ballet.
Yuri Possokhov: "Our version is in line with the book. For me, it is a timeless story and Pechorin is a character that is popular in any time. He is an unconventional man, very smart, very sophisticated but at the same time he has his negative sides too. There is a huge gap between him and everybody else. Pechorin despises society but as a result society sees him as an out-of-the-ordinary man, women fall in love with him, men admire him. Something that is negative is always liked more than the positive. In my understanding, this is what the hero of our time is."
